Conditions We See

From fertility and women’s health to persistent pain, headaches and migraines, we work with a wide range of presentations. These are the areas our patients most often come to us for. Every treatment plan is tailored to you, drawing on acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and complementary techniques.

Our Services

Our clinic offers traditional Chinese medicine treatments grounded in a thorough diagnosis of your individual pattern. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine sit at the core of what we do, supported by cupping and moxibustion where they help. Every session is shaped around you.

Meet Our Practitioners

Our team of three AHPRA-registered acupuncturists and Chinese medicine practitioners brings together deep clinical experience and a genuine commitment to your health. Warm, thorough and dedicated to working alongside you, every member of the team has their own area of focus and shared patients across the clinic.

Why Choose Altona Acupuncture

For over a decade, Altona Acupuncture has been a trusted part of healthcare in Melbourne’s inner west. We’re a small, independent clinic, which means you see the same practitioner each visit, your treatment plan is built around your history, and you’re never just another number on a schedule.

Traditional Chinese medicine looks at the whole picture. Rather than treating a single symptom in isolation, we ask what’s driving it, how it connects to the rest of your body, and what pattern of support will bring you back into balance. Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, cupping and moxibustion each have their place, and we draw on them as your presentation needs.

Whether you’re navigating fertility, living with persistent pain, managing a stressful season, or looking for a considered approach to long-term wellbeing, our team is here to work with you. We welcome new patients from across Altona, Altona North, Williamstown, Yarraville, Newport and the wider inner west.

FAQs

Acupuncture is commonly used to support fertility and IVF, pregnancy and postpartum recovery, period and hormonal health, persistent pain, stress and sleep, and digestive complaints. We take a whole-of-person view, so treatment is tailored to your history and goals rather than a single symptom. You can see a full list on our conditions page.

The needles we use are very fine, around the width of a human hair, and most people feel only a light tap or a dull ache that settles within seconds. Many patients find treatment deeply relaxing and often drift off during the session. We check in with you throughout to make sure you’re comfortable.

Your first visit runs for around 75 minutes. We take a detailed health history, talk through what you’d like to work on, and build a treatment plan together. You’ll then have your first acupuncture treatment, and we’ll discuss frequency, lifestyle support, and any herbal medicine that might help.

It depends on what we’re working on and how long it has been going. Acute complaints often settle in two to four sessions, while fertility support, chronic pain, or hormonal issues usually respond best to weekly treatment over a course of four to six weeks, then spaced out as things improve.

Yes. We’re registered with all major Australian private health funds for acupuncture, and we process on-the-spot HICAPS claims so you only pay the gap at the end of your appointment. Rebate amounts depend on your individual cover, so it’s worth checking with your fund.

All our practitioners are AHPRA-registered Chinese medicine practitioners, which means they hold an accredited four-year degree in acupuncture and Chinese medicine and meet the continuing education and safety standards set by the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia. You can read more about each of them on our team page.
